Are you a criminal? Let an algorithm decide - no crime needed

This is not what we've signed up to, machines deciding on if you're a criminal or not by just analyzing your face. No crime, no evidence, no due process, no nothing - just simply a glance at your face and boom - Guilty!

When the risk of algorithms starting to rule our lives is imminent, we really should take at the very least legislative steps. The reasoning: "I haven't done anything wrong, why should I worry" isn't any longer applicable, because You don't have to do anything at all and still be found guilty.

Can we allow companies protected by law to rule our lives and pay them for doing it? Read an article on the subject by Motherboard's Ben Sullivan, it really opens up a can of worms of questions...

Excerpts from the article: "In their paper ‘Automated Inference on Criminality using Face Images’, published on the arXiv pre-print server, Xiaolin Wu and Xi Zhang from China’s Shanghai Jiao Tong University investigate whether a computer can detect if a human could be a convicted criminal just by analysing his or her facial features. The two say their tests were successful, and that they even found a new law governing “the normality for faces of non-criminals."
